We are delighted to announce that Associazione Trentini nel Mondo has been invited to participate in the research project “In the family home: roots tourism in Italy”, coordinated by Prof. Ester Capuzzo of Sapienza University of Rome, with the involvement of contemporary historians, economic historians, and experts from ENIT (Italian National Tourism Agency responsible for promoting Italian tourism).
The project explores a topic that is close to our hearts: roots tourism, in particular the journeys made by Trentino emigrants and their descendants, who return to their ancestors' countries of origin to rediscover their history, identity, and family ties.
These trips are not simple journeys:
- for the first generation, they are an emotional return to the places of their lives;
- for the second and third generations (and next generations), they are a way to reconstruct their identity, rediscover traditions, visit the places of their ancestors, discover their culture and, in many cases, re-establish lost ties.
We need your help!
In order to collect valuable data, an anonymous questionnaire has been created at this link:
aimed at descendants of Trentino natives, which we invite you to fill in.
The information collected—age, family background, knowledge of the Italian language, travel experiences in Italy, relationships with Trentino communities, and much more—will allow the working group to outline a realistic and in-depth picture of heritage tourism.
Filling out the questionnaire is simple, but essential to give voice to the history of your family and our community.
Once the project is complete, we will present the results through:
- a workshop organized in Trentino together with Trentini nel Mondo;
- an international conference at Sapienza University of Rome;
- a final publication, which will collect analyses, testimonials, and proposals.
Filling out the questionnaire takes just a few minutes, and your collaboration can make a difference. In emphasizing the importance of the data that will be collected, we renew our invitation to fill in the questionnaire, so that together we can build a collective memory that values the roots, stories, and future of our Trentino community around the world.
